Blog Assignment 4

What does it mean to be relational as a teacher? How will you interact with your students to accomplish this?

I think that being a relational teacher means that you have a deeper, more personal connection with your students. It means that you care about your students' personal successes, and they genuinely care about what you think about them.

In order to maintain this sort of relationship with my students, I believe that I have to successfully convey sincerity and passion. It's not about making them like me or making friends, because that's not what I'm getting paid for. It is, however, very important for my students to truly believe that I care about and have their best interests in mind.

Blog Assignment 3

After watching the videos on Attention, Emotions and Learning, describe how this information impacts you as a teacher.

There are many genetic predispositions students have in the areas of attention and emotion, so it might seem like there isn't much a teacher can do to change the nature of students with problems with attention and emotion. However, it has been shown that by fostering an environment of positive reinforcement and stability, emotional problems can be overcome. Likewise, by recognizing attention deficits and taking the appropriate actions, such as rearranging the student to avoid distractions, attention problems can become less of a hindrance.

Blog Assignment 2

After watching the videos on Vision and Hearing, describe how this information impacts you as a teacher.

Vision and hearing are very important aspects of the learning environment. Especially from an early age, a teacher's impact on students' vision and hearing plays a large role on how they learn. Of course, a teacher can't control the environment external to the classroom, but by encouraging healthy behavior and stimulation, a teacher can make sure that their students are positioned for successful learning in the classroom.

As a teacher, I feel a greater responsibility to the environment and atmosphere I create for my students, as I now realize how important these factors are in my students' success. It also empowers me to be active in cultivating positive learning habits in my students.
